SPOT 14

Ohi Town

Ishiyamazaka Pass

Prefectural Road 16 (Sakamoto Takayama Line), whose entire section just opened in 2025, is a hidden gem of a driving route that is not yet well known. The view is good because it climbs up an elevation of about 200m at once in a section of about 3km, and the newly improved road including the famous loop bridge can be driven comfortably with gentle curves and gradients.

Ishiyamazaka Pass used to be a steep pass where large vehicles were restricted and it was closed in winter. With the opening of the improved section of about 3.5km, a new route where you can enjoy both driving and scenery has been born.

"Loop Bridge of the Sky" Connecting the North and South of Ohi Town

Prefectural Road 16 connecting the former Ohi Town and former Natasho Village of Ohi Town used to be a mountain road with narrow width and continuous sharp curves, but improvement work was completed in March 2025, dramatically improving convenience and safety. Although it was conventionally closed in winter, year-round passage has become possible.

Starting from the intersection with National Route 27 at the northern end, a two-lane road with gentle curves continues for a while. After passing the Oi Takahama IC of the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway, the Ishiyama No. 3 Loop Bridge, also known as the "Loop Bridge of the Sky," appears immediately.

You Can Enjoy a Large Panorama Including the Loop Bridge

Winding curves continue after that, but because the gradient is gentle and the curve radius is large, you can enjoy a comfortable drive. As you climb further, a large panorama including the loop bridge spreads out occasionally. The section of about 3km up to the Ishiyama Tunnel is where you can enjoy superb views.
