The Angel Line, heading to the summit of Mt. Kusuyagadake, is a driving road where you can enjoy the superb view of Wakasa Bay. Since the surroundings are not turned into a tourist site and diverse corners continue for a moderate distance, it is a route where you can enjoy a comfortable drive. At dusk on sunny days, you can enjoy the sight of the setting sun dyeing the sea surface.
With little traffic and stable gradients, the Angel Line is an ideal environment as a mountain pass road. The summit with a superb view is often empty, making it a recommended spot for car lovers.
A Comfortable Driving Route with Little Traffic
Obama Bay, a branch bay of Wakasa Bay, is formed by the Uchitomi Peninsula on the east and the Oshima Peninsula on the west. The Angel Line is a winding road of approximately 9.7km heading to the summit of Mt. Kusuyagadake, which forms the Uchitomi Peninsula. It opened as the Mt. Kusuyagadake Toll Road in 1972, but is now free of charge.
As a route aiming for the mountain summit from the foot, it has the aspect of a mountain pass road, but since the surroundings are surrounded by the sea, the car window view is truly a series of superb views. There is a huge rock called Ookamiiwa on the way, and there is an observatory and toilet at the summit. Traffic is relatively light, making it a perfect route for driving.
You Can Overlook Wakasa Bay in a 360-Degree Large Panorama
Because there are few ups and downs, another attraction is that you can drive at a stable speed, climbing all the way going and descending all the way returning. The distance is not too long, and there are various large and small curves, so you won't get bored driving. However, even if it is empty, careful attention is required regarding excessive speed and looking aside being lured by the scenery. Depending on the season, there are many fallen leaves, and it may be slippery.
A superb view spreads from the observatory at the summit. If the weather is good, you can overlook Wakasa Bay from Cape Echizen to the Tango Peninsula, and on the south side, you can overlook the urban area of Obama. Please note that it is closed in winter (Dec-Mar).
